All students at Sri Ramakrishna College of Engineering are required to uphold a stringent level of discipline while within the college premises.

General code of Conduct

  • The general rule at Sri Ramakrishna College of Engineering mandates that all individuals maintain a notably high level of discipline within the campus grounds.
  • Students are expected to maintain the cleanliness of the college campus and show respect towards elders while adhering to principles of gender equality.
  • Any form of ragging is strictly prohibited and punishable.
  • Punctuality, regularity, and attentiveness in classes are emphasized, with students required to be seated in lecture halls five minutes before class begins.
  • Perfect order and silence are to be maintained in lecture halls, laboratories, seminar halls, exam halls, and workshops.
  • Attendance of at least 75% is necessary to be eligible for Anna University Exams.
  • Leaving the campus during working hours requires prior permission from the Head of Department.
  • Permission from counselors, year in-charges, and HOD is necessary for taking leave.
  • Medical certificates are required for absences exceeding three days due to illness.
  • Leaving during internal assessment tests or examinations is strictly prohibited.
  • Absence from internal assessment tests, model practical examinations, and model theory examinations is closely monitored.
  • Malpractices during examinations are taken seriously.
  • Roaming outside the classroom during lecture hours is not allowed.
  • Students are advised to wear decent formal attire and adhere to specified uniforms for laboratory/workshop classes, including shoes.
  • Damaging college property and scribbling on walls, tables, and boards are strictly forbidden.
  • Usage of mobile phones is prohibited inside the classroom.

Conduct in the Department

  • The Head of Department (HOD) will assign teaching loads to faculty members based on their expertise.
  • Once a subject is allocated, the faculty member is responsible for preparing the lecture along with a lesson plan.
  • The lesson plan and course file must be approved by the HOD or Vice-Principal and should include a preface, timetable, previous year university question papers, notes, handouts, OHP sheets, test/exam question papers, and three model answer scripts for each test/exam, along with any assignments.
  • Faculty members must regularly update and maintain their logbooks for inspection by the HOD or Vice-Principal.
  • Before the start of the semester, lecture notes must be submitted to the HOD and Vice-Principal.
  • Additionally, faculty members are expected to undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the HOD/Principal in academic, co-curricular, or extra-curricular activities.
  • Each faculty member is responsible for maintaining student attendance records, noting absentees roll numbers daily in the Master Attendance Register of the department after classes/laboratory hours.
  • Prior approval for leave is required from the faculty member, with proper alternate arrangements made for class/lab/invigilation.
  • In emergencies, the HOD or the next senior faculty member must be informed, with appropriate alternate arrangements suggested.

Laboratory

  • Faculty members are required to be present inside the lab 15 minutes prior to the start of lab classes.
  • The faculty member conducting the practical session must personally perform the experiments and ensure satisfactory results before instructing students to proceed.
  • Whenever feasible, additional experiments should be provided to clarify concepts for students.
  • Lab observations and records must be corrected promptly during the next class session.
  • Lab classes should adhere to the following structure: 30 minutes for observation, 90 minutes for conducting experiments, and 30 minutes for result verification and viva.
  • Faculty members are responsible for updating the lab manual in accordance with the revised syllabus. Sample records must be maintained in every lab.

Student Faculty Relation

  • The faculty member is expected to maintain good control over students in the classroom.
  • Upon entering the class, attendance should be taken immediately.
  • Latecomers may be permitted to attend but marked absent.
  • For repeat offenders or habitual latecomers, the teacher should attempt personal counseling first.
  • If no change is observed, the student should be directed to meet the class coordinator or HOD.
  • Faculty members should handle insubordination with tact.
  • While its important to be strict, harsh language that may hurt students feelings should never be used.
